Here is your final blog assignment!!!! I am so impressed by the work you have all been doing so far. Awesome job ladies and gentlemen!
For the duration of this unit, we have discussed censorship and banned books, and the role of students/parents/teachers when it comes to making decisions about keeping books available at the high school level.
Write a blog entry (minimum of 200 words) that discusses your view of censorship in today's world. Do you feel it is EVER acceptable to ban a book from a school library? (Why or why not?) What is a student's role when a book is banned? Write what your response would be to someone who wanted to ban a book from the Centennial High School library.
Is there ever a time and place for censorship in our world? (Why or why not?)
And finally: Examine the reasons your own literature circle book was challenged and discuss the literary merit of your book vs. the issues surrounding its place on the banned/challenged book list.
I finished the book, and to say the least it was odd. I was thinking that she would have gone through it. But she did not. She lived, she moved on and started to fight the depression. I am proud of her. I really am, I am glad that I have finished the book to the very end. I just hope that she will give Buddy a chance. He is not a bad guy, not at all. Maybe a little creepy but so is she. I mean she did take that diamond from that man and was almost...well you get the picture. But I am glad that she did not die in the end. She was over all a strong character, I guess the reason why I hated her was because she reminded me of myself. It gives me a restful thought that she is able to live on even with the depression. She tries to end her life in the least most painful way, but decides to live with going on. I just hope that in the end it did not kill her. I hope she lives a better life where she is finally married to Buddy even if they are hypocritical buttheads.

My opinion on a book being banned is based on what causes the book to have the possibility of being banned. Teenagers in 2013 are a lot more experienced then most perceive. They are around other students who choose to make decisions that are not always the best decision. For example, some teenagers decide to do drugs, or drink, or some even decide to have sexual inter course with another person. When teenagers read about a book that has these things in the context, it’s not usually a surprise to them, so why limit what a teenager can read if they already know about these things? The word teenager to me ranges from the ages 12 to 18 when then they become an adult. Teenagers should have the opportunity to read about what these things are before becoming an adult and just being expected for them to know hat these tings are. A high school library should have a reasonable limit as to what books they can release into their libraries. In the book Kite Runner there is a rape scene that happens between 2 boys. The book should not have been banned for these reasons, because teenagers should be able to read about these things and know it can happen. Some things happen unexpectedly that you can not control.
