Night By: Elie Wiesel This book sounded very interesting to me from the moment my Mrs. Wescott described how it was about a Nazi death camp. I have always been interested in Nazi and world war II novels and information. That is why I put it as one of my top choices for books. As I got into reading this book one of the first thing I noticed was that the names sounded really interesting to me like Moshe the Beadle. The as I read on it truly astonished me how much of what happened could have been prevented. When someone spoke up to tell them what the Germans had been doing they just ignored it, or blew it off as if it were a story they had made up to get attention. When Moshe told his story about when they took him for months they just thought nothing of it. they even thought nothing of it when the Germans came to town. They let those people put them in ghettos willingly. I am looking forward to what happens as the story progresses
Night by: Elie Wiesel In the beginning the book was very slow paced and doesn't catch your attention. At first I thought this book was not going to be for me, but as your get into it you can see that this book has so much detail about what happened. It explains how quick they had to just get ready to leave the ghetto. Some people didn't even know what was happening until someone would come and tell them that they needed to get ready. I am very unclear about why they just didn't pack up and leave, and why they didn't know sooner. One thing I really like about this book is the depth it goes into, the details they put into it is what's really making me want to read it. Also, the names of the people are very interesting.
I agree with you so much to the part about the book being slow, it definitely didn't excite me when i first began to read it also. I believe the reason they didn't just get up and leave is because they didn't know what to do, they were caught off guard. That's like you being forced out of your house not knowing when your next meal will be, or such. I personally have a question about how your pronounce the name of the main character, its confusing to keep tabs on each person considering i have no idea the pronouncing of the name.
I thought the same thing reading the beginning of the book. I think that would be one of the hardest things to do is to just get up and leave everything behind. The couldn't take anything they would have liked with them, and that means no photos and no family treasures. They focused on taking essentials like food and I thought that was pretty smart of them.
Jessica Hij Assignment #1 In the beginning of the book, I was already fascinated with what I knew was ahead to read. As I began to read more into the pages of the book, I began to have the opportunity to have a glimpse of what it was like for these Jewish people who lived during this time period. The author allows the reader to feel so many emotions and sorrow, but it helps us understand the concept of what the author is trying to get us to understand. In the story, Moshe the Beadle knew what was going to go on, but everyone in his town thought he was crazy. The thing that is very interesting to me is that if I were in that time, I would probably believe that he had lost it too. It makes me realize that we as humans are often very oblivious to the things that take place around us. I am very excited and thrilled to continue to read this book and further learn what is going to happen within the next time I pick up that book!
Jessica Hij Assignment #2 In the book, the main character talks a lot about how he doesn't feel pain anymore. What is happening has made an impact on his life and he will never be the same again. An example that shows this is when the main character says "Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever." (Wiesel 32)I chose this quote because it showed an importance to what had happened in world war 2. When the author talked about the children being burned, it hit my heartstrings and allowed me to realize that these things really happened back in the days of the war. It makes the reader value their lives so much more because this isn't something that they have to face seeing everyday or have the worry that they wont be able survive through a certain day. This quote kind of shows a little bit of why it could have been band, but I think it is important for Americans to read this book and be aware of what it is that took place, less than 100 years ago.
Assignment #2 This book makes you realize how good we have it now. They had the leave their homes and leave everything behind. "... dragging their packs, dragging their lives, deserting their homes, the years of their childhood, cringing like beaten dogs." (Page15) I chose this because it made me realize that they weren't leaving their homes. The kids were leaving their childhood, they would never get that back if they lived. They all aren't just carrying their packs on their back, they are carrying all their worries and all the good times they had, that won't happen anymore. Everyone is so scared to get out of line because if they did, who knows what would happen. I believe this quote is important because it explains the hardest part of the journey, leaving everything behind. The journey which their family gets split up. I like this quote cause it pretty much sums up what the book is about in just one sentence, the hardship. This quote can't be the reason why the book is banned, or any quotes. I don't get how a book like this could get banned. It explains what happened during that time and gives you what happens in the camps. It tells you what happens in each camp, and what you had to do to stay in the nice camps; the camps that didn't push you to the limit.
Michaela Sawyer Assignment #1 Night by: Elie Wiesel I was so excited to begin this book, to further my understanding of what went on in the time period of the Jews. The first couple pages of this book honestly confused me though, to the point I needed to reread it a few times. It was hard to keep up with, but as I began to understand and find the answers to my questions I realized what an awesome book it actually is. My favorite thing so far in this book is how in depth the author goes in his explanation of the conditions the Jews had gone through in their towns, and how they were expected to completely pack up their entire belongings for no apparent reason. Well besides the fact they were Jews. It was a reality check for me and it hit me like a ton of breaks, because I had no real understanding of the conditions these innocent people had gone through, or the things they had to witness. It’s definitely given me a new perception and respect for the Jewish community, and I am beyond excited to finish this book and expand my knowledge for the Nazi Camps.
I think one of the most confusing things for me at least was the names. I thought that the detail of how they buried their belongings under ground was interesting and made me wonder if anyone ever got back to recover them from the ground, or if in the future archaeologist will find them and end up in a museum somewhere.
Denis Striletskiy Assigment #1 Night by: Elie Wiesel To start off the book i was really exited. I had watched a lot of movies that related to the Holocaust. as i started reading the book. it was really slow and boring . it took forever to get into the book. Then around page 20 it really started to pick up speed. the book was actually starting to get really interesting. the author really goes in depth with the descriptions of exactly what happen in while he was held captive. More then once i had too put the book down because of the vivid descriptions. This book is defiantly amazing because it is REAL its about something Real that happened no too long ago. I knew a lot about the Holocaust but this book really broadened my perspective about the Holocaust and the Germans. I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone of all ages.
Jessica Hij Assignment #3 Book Review: The book Night by Elie Wiesel is a book that takes place during World War Two when the Nazis in Germany were killing innocent Jews. The main character and narrator of the book is a boy who is named Eliezer. Throughout the book he talks about the hardships that he had been through and the things he had to witness during this time period in our world. He not only talks about what he had been through but he talks about how they had to struggle to stay healthy on a bowl of soup for years so that he could not risk being thrown in a pit of fire alive. While reading this book I had realized many things. In some aspects I liked this book, but in other aspects it hurt me to read it. I liked this book because it gave the reader a glimpse of what the Jews had to experience during the time Hitler was in charge of Germany. At the same time, I didn’t like this book because it broke my heart to read the torturous things these innocent people had gone through and had to witness. They would get to the point where they would kill their own family for a piece of bread. I would recommend this book to anyone. The reason why I would recommend it is because it would give the reader a chance to step into the tragedy of what happened less than 100 years ago and be more thankful for how lucky we truly are not to have had this happen to ourselves. This book is truly life changing and I would recommend it to anyone who has a heart to know what happened to these people. Night is written by Elie Wiesel who himself, is a holocaust survivor. This book is an example of the things Eliezer really went through during the times of the Holocaust. When he was just 15 he was deported to the refugee camp at Auschwitz. Night is a story that took place in his real life and is a reminder to us all of the unbearable things that took place during these times.
Jessica Hij Assignment #4 Many times, we have witnessed moments where a book was unable to be checked out, simply because a public library or a school library banned the book you were looking for. There is many censorships in today’s world, but it shouldn’t be up to society and our elders to decide what kind of book we want to open our imaginations to. Every person has a certain preference or genre they prefer to read and it should be up to anyone but ourselves to decide what we would like to read. In my personal opinion, I don’t think that it is acceptable to ban a book from a school library UNLESS it is from the middle school age, and below. High schoolers and elders should be able to read any book because they are more mature and tend to have a better understanding of what it is they are reading. When it comes to violence, drugs, history etc. A students role when a book is banned is to obey what is being done, but that shouldn’t be for others to choose. We as students are old enough to read something that may catch our decision. It should be up to US to decide whether a book is appropriate to read for our own interests or not. If someone were to want to ban a book from Centennial High schools library, my response would be to tell them that if they don’t want to read it, they don’t have to. Just because it may seem inappropriate to them, that doesn’t mean that they should restrict that right for someone else to read it. We all have different interests, beliefs, and ways of thinking. Just because they don’t agree with the book, doesn’t mean everyone has the same opinion as the person wanting to ban the book. On the contrary, there is sometimes a time and place to ban a book. It depends on the situation; there is a time and place for everything. Part of the reason the “Night” by Elie Wiesel was banned was because it contained profanity, violence, and horror. The problem with this is that it is something that really took place in our world. Why restrict our people from bearing the truth of something that really happened? I believe banning this book was ridiculous; every American should have a deeper insight to what would go on during World War Two!

It put a different perspective in my head, as I’m sure it did for many other readers also. It’s pretty clear to me as to why this book was banned. It takes a mature audience to read something to such a sensitive subject.
