Picking out the book “The Lovely Bones” I expected it to be a lot different. As of being more mysterious about the actual murder, such as it will be reveled at the end. Yet it was revealed at the beginning, and is very terrifying. The way she was just frivolous murdered out of nowhere. Did Mr. Harvey and Susie had a conflict and that’s what led to the murder? Since it doesn’t explain nothing about any reason and yet a relationship between them. It just states “the end came anyway”, was she aware of her death…? “I knew he was going to kill me”, statement made me wonder how did she know? Due to it not being revealed and said by Mr. Harvey. After couple of days passed by, her father was being very suspicious, and once being near Mr. Harvey asked him in a carefully way “ you know something”, and in return he did not get any answer except “ Go home. I can’t help you”, So far about 100 pages in the book, more and more is revealed about the identity of Mr. Harvey, who he actually is and the actions behind all the lies. Further in the book I think Susie will somehow appear and will tell her view of her death instead just watching and telling from heaven.
What I like about the book is that it’s interesting and very engaging. It makes you want to make predictions, have you wondering what is gonna happen next. The most interesting part that has happened in the book so far was when Susie was with Mr.Harvey and they were having a drink or two. Then all of a sudden he has her on lock down and doesn’t want her to leave so she tries her hardest to escape the scary seen all though she didn’t succeed in it she tried. I was confused about the begging it said how she died on a specific date and I didn't really catch on too that so i'm still figuring out what that ment. I want to discuss if anyone is going to help Susie with her situation. My question I have is, is she ever going too talk about her rape seen or if shes going too tell anyone about it?
As i read my book I liked how the character wrote the story and gave out the details, even though it confused me a little and I got lost every chapter I read. The most interesting part so far in my book was when my character was being sexually touched by her neighbor, also when she fought for her life, and tried to escape from him. I was really confused from the start because my character was speaking in a third persons voice but then she talked about how she was raped and at the same times talked about how she is in heaven. So far a lot of things don't make sence but some things are kinda clicking in to my mind. As I get together with my groups I want to discuss about what they know so far from what we discuss about last time. further in the book i think someone in her family will be the one telling the story.
Tamie Dzhuha Assignment 2 " You were not there when your daughter needed you". I chose this quote for the reason of it making me wonder why Susie's father was questioning, and doubting about his connection to his daughter. I like it due to showing his concern about his actions and it also show's how much he misses and wishes to go back in time, and changing the relationship and being there for her when ever she needed. It gives a bit connection as in father-daughter. Yet it revealed a lot about him character and clearly proves that he had nothing to do with Susie's murder, and cares to find out the truth about it more than anyone, gives an emotional side. But then if he cared so much why didn't he question Mr. Harvey more...? and either stock or done something to find out the truth? Also how come the mother never showed any concern about the murder...Show that she doesn't care, or at least it seems like it.
Assignment #1 Lucero Cornejo-Bautista Last week I started reading the book “The lovely bones”. This book simply grabs the reader’s attention, grabbing their attention, making them want to keep reading more and more, and wanting to know what’s going to happen next. As I get into the book I’ve notice that this book simply gives a lot of details of how everything is happening. It’s just sad how she got rape and got killed by her neighbor Mr. Harvey, when this girl was only 14 years old, and for the man to act like it wasn’t him who did the damage to her family, it is just so ridiculous. I wonder if Mr. Harvey had everything plan for her murder or had he killed other girls or was Susie his first victim. Even though I’m behind on the book, I believe this book is worth the reading, and the dedication of actually reading it because at the start of the book it literally jump into the subject where she was rape, and maybe you’re curious why Mr. Harvey did what he did, also might wonder did he ever get caught of the crime he committed. Many questions are going thru my head, can’t wait till they get answer.
Miko Gemechu Assignment #2 “Maybe he is a stalker? I feel Susie, I think she watches me” I chose this quote because finally her father was thinking and solving things by himself instead of sitting there and letting the police handling it. It really hit me because Susie thought her father will find out how she got killed. I like it because it made Susie feel like her father could feel her and understand her. Also Mr. Harvey was going to pay for what he has done. This quote is important to me because if you were in Susie’s situation you will be really happy to know someone you love is finally seeing things and trying to figure out what had happen to you. This passage really doesn’t show me why the book was banned but what had happen in the beginning of the story kind of showed me an idea of why the book will be banned. In my point of view this book was probably banned because of the “rape scene” in the story, but maybe in the end it will give more details. This quote says a lot about the character because he is taking a big step and finding out what had happen to his daughter by himself instead of relying on the polices. I could connect to this quote because I hated when people never understood me or try to figure out what is going on with me, so reading this passage made me think about my own life.
Assignment #2 Queenie Oguzie "When the dead are done with the living, living can go to other things" I choose this quote because I thought that it was the whole main reason about the book how Susi dies and goes to heavon. I like it because it says alot about how susi is unsure about where she belongs. Its important because susi's counselor Franny tells her this and gives her advice on how to help her with her situation. I think this book indicates why this book was banned because of the situation of "death". My views is that I dont find anything so bad about talking about death. This quote says alot about the theme because of being dead and leaving a negative situation that happened in her life. I can connect this book to other books, There was one book I was reading it was called "shattered" it was about a girl going through a rough time in her life, she was sexual harassed constantly by boys so she though the best thing to solve her problems was to be dead.
Alice Sebold went through lot’s in her personal life. During her freshman year at Syracuse University 1981 she was also held at knife-point and raped but luckily she survived. It gave a big damage in her life and an emotional side and non understanding of other’s surrounding her. While working on the book, she stopped in the middle and wrote another book of a young rape victim called Lucky . Over time The Lovely Bones became a number one best selling book, and it also connected to many hearts. The concept of the book was a tragic, mysterious and mostly a connection between a family. She was raped and murdered by a man down the street. It shows an emotional side of her father and how much he wished he did different while she was alive. Most importantly he was trying to get the facts straight that Mr. Harvey was the killer, in general it states their lives and the way they moved on after the tragedy. It goes on about the lives of her mom and the affair she had with the detective. Her sister’s Lindsey graduation, wedding and daughter. It mostly shows the live she could of have but yet she didn't. My personal judgment of the book was way beyond what it really was. For starters I would not want to read a book that goes right away to the main concept of it. It rushes and doesn't go beyond the reason Mr. Harvey murdered her, and the connection that she possibly had with him. Confused me why her...? not her sister for example. Did he dislike her? And what exactly happened to his mother? Yet it opened about many thing but doesn't tell any background of the characters. And their connection to Susie. In general the book showed such a strong regret and most importantly the feeling of guilt and not being able to go back in time to change actions, words, behaviors. To me that was so touching and told a way for them that i didn't expect. Yet it would've been better. Overall this book definitely wasn't a waste of time, nor was it boring. Yet it was interesting in couple of ways but not fully to what I expected and wished would of happened.
Great job on explaining the book Tamie. I agree with you on your personal judgment because i expected this book to be so much better then what it really was.

The concept of the book “The lovely bones” is about an young girl who gets raped/murder by her neighbor Mr. Harvey. She talks about her family who are trying to figure out what had happen to her and her disappearance. She wished things had happen differently and shows how much her family cared and wish everything was a dream, especially her father who is the hero in the story. He's the loving father who can feel Susie's spirit and figures out his daughter's murder, but can't prove it. Facing the truths of his world, and trying to keep his loved ones and himself from going mad over what's happened to Susie. I thought this book was really interesting but however this book has single evenhandedly shown me that I spend too much time skimming and not enough time really reading. After reading the 1st chapter I was honestly bored and was lost most of the parts. In my point of view I would say this wasn't my favorite book, because it left me wondering and thinking most of the chapters. I wouldn't recommend this book for starter, because I’m sure no one wants to read a story that starts off on the main concept of the whole story and have u wondering and lost. It got my attention in the beginning and left me with boredom afterwards, yet it would've of been better. Overall to me this book was not something I enjoyed reading.
Queenie Oguzie Assignment #3 In the book the Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold A girl named Susie is murdered by a neighbor of hers. Her family and friends find out about the murder and are sad and devistated. The police investigate on Susie's murder and try to figure out everything they can. As susie is in heaven telling the story. I thought this book was not so good . It had me engaged in the begging but then I read it more it stopped getting my attention. I was struggling to understand what happened but I did understand some of it. This book made me feel sad because of the death of Susie and how everything happened and her family and friends are sad about everything. She didn't deserve anything like that to happen to her. This book was bad because it's not something you would like to read because of the sexual part that happens in the book it could make most readers uncomfortable reading. I wouldn't recommend this book because I don't think someone would be interested in reading a girl being sexual harassed. I know it made me quiet uncomfortable reading. There was also not much eye catching moments to read in this book it was mostly all sad and depressing cause it was basically surrounded around Susie's investigation and her telling the story from heaven. I wouldn't advise anyone to read this book at all.
I do feel like it's acceptable to ban a book from a library if its like hardcore killing or any type ofvery inapropriate scene or violence I dont think its right for high school students should be reading that type of stuff especially cause some parents are very conservitive about what their kids read. I think a students role when a book is banned is too read the book and find all the inapropriate parts in the book and undertsand why it was banned. If someone was to banned a book from centennial high school library I would ask them why they feel like the book should be banned and what do other people think about on how if the book should be banned or not. There is deffently a time and place for because for example when your in school you can't just say a cuss word out like that without getting in trouble maybe you do it at home but when you get too school you have to censor you self of course. Basically everywhere is censorship or depending on the place your at you might not have too but most places you must.
In today’s world I feel like it is acceptable to ban a book if it’s past an inappropriate level, but if it has semi violence it’s not acceptable to ban a book. School libraries are a place where students should read books that fit their immature level or to learn and read books that challenges them. Students should really be concern why books should be banned and talk to teachers/librarian why the books their interested in is being banned. If someone was to ban a book from centennial high school library I would take a chance to sit with that person and speak with them and ask to give me a pacific reason why they want to ban the book? I would react to their point of view and tell them my perspective on why they it should or shouldn't be ban. There are many times and places for the world to have censorship like School, your home, jobs, and church, because it is Important to surround ourselves in an appropriate censorship.
Tamie Dzhuha Assignment #4 Banning a book doesn't make life easier, it just makes people want to read the book much more than if it wasn’t banned. We all have the freedom of speech and the freedom of reading anything we want to. So when you tell a student you can’t read that book, and talking about myself I would go and read it right away. Many think that kids nor adults should read about violence, rape, murder. So many agree with banning to prevent things from happening. Yet that won’t make a difference to my opinion. Writhing about event that occured in life can help others who went through that. Also they are amazing authors who don't deserve their books being banned. Its definitely not the authors fault it the people fault who clearly should mind their own business and if they don't like then book then why ruin it for others. The Lovely Bones clearly had a reason to be banned but it was a stupid one, a barely 2 pages. Yet it was banned. The book overall was a not so interesting,, had lots of unanswered answers and questions and doubts about characters relationship....
