The things i like the most about this book is that its a very discreptive book, and it shows alot of emotion about the character. The thing that has been the most interesting to me in this book is that the main character is a very bright person he just doesnt put his mind to things, but when he does he is very good at what he is doing and is very intelligent. I like the book mostly because it is an autobiography, i like that it is about someone elses life, many other books bore me. I am most unclear and confused about why he doesnt try to actually do good in school instead of letting himself fail. And thats what i have gotten out of the book so far.
I agree this book is really descriptive and shows a lot of emotion about the character. Unlike you I found the character lazy and annoying. I didn't really like anything about this book, it was just too confusing.
I agree with you on that. He seems like he is pretty intelligent from his general literacy and wide range of vocabulary. To me he seems like he is lost in the sense that if he took the time to actually respond positively to the challenges he faced at school in stead of looking for the quickest way out I'm sure he would have been a top student or at least passed most of his classes. He tends to over think and has a vivid out look when he states his premature opinions of the world. He is kind but has a poor judgement quality that leads him into doing the wrong things because he lets his emotions dictate his short term goals. Right now I'm at the section where he gave quick a bit of money to these nuns for charity while he was at the diner. this was just one of the few things that shows he is kind in a way but tries to be indifferent about it. Most people wont believe that because he is very blunt when he speaks with people like he doesn't care weather or not it will make the people have a skeptical opinion of him which is what usually happens. that's about as far as I've reached in the book.
This book was somewhat anti climactic to me towards the end. It was a basic ending that was sort of expected, there wasnt much of a moral to the story and the plot was weak. It seemed like a diary of some of the experiences Holden encountered on his extremely prolonged journey home. What interested me though throughout the story is when is he going to realize that his self loathing attitude really wasn't getting him any sympathy from the people he talks to. He does like I've said before tend to have a kind nature, like when he snuck in knowing the risks just to say hi to his sister and see how she was doing.
the real problem with Holden was his lack of self motivation. He doesn't think logically, but then you remember that he's only a teenager and half the time even I don't think logically. You can tell he wasn't going on the right path from the fact that he was a strong smoker, but had to quit do to the fact he was attending the prep school. But you have to realize, he got kicked out so where is he headed now in life.
This book was some what different and the name didnt really capture what the book for told in the beginning even though towards the end of the book he used catcher and the rye in a sentence but until then you wouldnt suspect that to be the title of the book. The story was an auto biography of Holden's short adventure home. Catcher and the Rye gave the reader a small incite to Holden's general feelings towards society and how he reacts to different situations that he must get past in this short story. He does what most kids that have been raised poorly and it gives the reader a sense of relief knowing that most teens his age wont face the little struggles he faced through out the book. This book is an alright but very vague book. the reason the book is vague is because the ending isnt really an ending there isnt a happy or sad ending. In some ways the book just ends and the reader is left with a sort of cliff hanger. Truth about the book in my opinion it pretty much tells me what not to do. The good thing I learned is if I'm every in a hotel im never getting a prostitute.
This is a book that makes the reader wonder why Holden is doing these things to himself and putting himself in these situations that he just wont win. He barely by the skin of his teeth sneaks into his parents house and sneaks out but that was a fluke. the truth is if he just focus on school instead of scheming he would set for life, but in this book thats not the case is it. from the way Holden acts towards others he ends up making the reader hate him for his choices which is basically the usual reaction this book gets from the reader.
I also agree with somto i believe that this books title does not match up with the information in the book. I believe that this books infomation is really just about holdens little adventures he had during his little time before this book. The things that jumped out from the book the most is that i should never do things half ass and always put 100 percent of myself into anything that i do even if i dont see any outcome to whatever im doing right away. The only thing i dont think i agree with somto is that when he said he wouldnt go and pick a hooker at a hotel doesnt make anysense for him to put that in his blog and if someone else was reading it, it would confuse them!
Life is a game, boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules.” The reason I like this quote so much is because, it just an amazing quote and I have herd it from a lot of people that are role models for me. And it just reminds me of football because football is a game and you have to play it by the rules and that’s what life kind of means for me, life’s just a game and you have to get all that you can by the rules of life that you can before you dead and gone. That’s why like this quote. The reason this quote is so important to me is because all the role models in my life have told me this and you can really relate this quote to anything football, school, and just everything in life. No this passage does not indicate why the book has been banned or challenged. It says about the character that said this is that he is very intelligent and maybe is a little older and that he maybe has had more experiences that have put him through challenging things but has also taught him a lot of things about the game of life. That I am living the game of life and I need to get everything I can get out of this life and just play by the rules and be the best person I can for everyone around close to me, and new people I have not yet met.
